Designed in 1980 by Dame Margaret Barbour, the Bedale® Jacket was created specifically with equestrian practicality in mind. Its shorter length, relaxed fit, and rear vents were tailored to allow comfort and mobility while riding, while the essential nylon inner ‘drip-strip’ prevented moisture from seeping upward from the horse, ensuring lasting dryness and durability. Crafted from mediumweight 6oz waxed cotton, the Bedale® embodies both functionality and timeless British style. True to Barbour tradition, the jacket features a brass two-way ring-pull zip with a studded ‘Stormfly’ front, two large bellows pockets, and soft moleskin-lined handwarmer pockets for added comfort. The classic corduroy collar includes studs for a throat flap, offering protection against the elements. Its practical yet refined design has made the Bedale® a favourite across generations. Still handcrafted in the North East of England, the Bedale® remains a symbol of enduring country style and authentic functionality.
