Vintage kilt pin open circle round style medallion brooch by Tara representing the Book of Kells. Brooch measures 1 7/8” across in gold plated metal. Colors of red, yellow, blues and green in classic design. Estate kept, in excellent condition.
The sacred manuscript known as The Book of Kells is the inspiration for this piece. Enamel jewelry is the art for which the ancient Irish were famous. The subtlety & intricacy of patterns used in jewelry work amaze with exquisite weaves & curls hand painted in bright colors. Using vibrant multicolor Guilloche enamel, copper, bronze and gilding, the craftsmen created medieval Celtic designs.
