This is a piece of authentic, hand-etched Navajo horsehair pottery. The distinctive black lines are created by applying real horsehair to the hot pottery during the firing process, which carbonizes and leaves unique, random markings. The top portion features hand-etched symbols and traditional color bands in purple, teal, and reddish-brown. It is handmade by Navajo Native American artisan Skeeter Vail. Made in the US and is signed by the artist on the bottom.
The technique is a traditional Native American art form, particularly common among Navajo potters, symbolizing the bond between the people and the horse.
