This rare 1830 volume is a great source for social history! An American revision of an English book penned by Rev. Thomas Cooke, who's name is omitted here! Includes business correspondence, letters between men and women regarding courtship, letters between friends, and letters between older men and women giving advice and guidance to younger people. Many aspects of social life in Georgian England & early national America are reflected in these pages!
The book has been in my possession over a half century and well-cared for. It belonged to a German speaking farmer in Canton, Ohio, in the early 19th century and the names of several owners are inscribed in the front. The boards have some fraying and there is the expected tanning and foxing of pages, but overall very presentable! The binding is tight and there are no missing pages. Other than inscriptions on the endpaper the pages are unmarked. See all photos carefully to judge condition! Smoke free home.
