Framed Native American sand painting depicting the Sun Symbol Drawing Water motif. This intricate artwork features a central sun face with radiating lines representing rays and smaller figures. The description on the back indicates this symbol was used for drawing much needed rain for crops and essentials in the arid Navajo and Apache country. The four square bars lead twelve rays to the face of the sun at each cardinal point, which symbolized drawing water from morning, noon, evening, and night. The colored arcs in the center of the sun represent the statement as above so below. This painting is normally surrounded by the Rainbow Guardian (not shown) to protect this symbolic thought form. The sands are collected from the deserts and mountains of the southwestern United States, making this painting durable and can be dusted with a soft brush. The plastic hanger is for display purposes only.
