Vintage Ashanti Fertility Doll Carved Wooden Statue Asante Ghana African Tribal Art 8.5

Bring a piece of West African heritage into your home with this authentic Ashanti (Asante) Fertility Doll, known traditionally as an Akua'ba.

The Akuaba symbol is characterized by a large, circular, disc-shaped head, ringed neck, outstretched arms and a slender body.

Traditionally, a woman would carry the doll on her back, hoping to conceive a child or ensure a healthy birth. The figure's spiritual energy was believed to help overcome infertility, and if successful, the sculpture might become a plaything for the child.

This vintage tribal art doll from Ghana in West Africa is hand-carved from solid Jacaranda wood.

Measures approx. 8 1/2" H.

In very good condition with handmade imperfections and expected minor light wear (dings, scratches, etc.).
Please see pictures for more details.
