1940s Vintage World War 2 Set of Three United States Air Force embroidered Souvenir Handkerchiefs In Great Condition. Blue one has some fading.
All 3 measures 9" x 9"
These hankerchiefs, typically made of rayon or similar materials, were popular during the 1940s. They feature the Air Force logo, a winged star insignia, and the words "United States Air Force".
These were often purchased by airmen at post exchanges to be sent home as mementos or "sweetheart" gifts for loved ones like mothers and sisters, rather than for actual use.
The handkerchiefs come in red, yellow/gold, and blue colors, each with an embroidered central crest. They often have scalloped or laced edges.
They date back to the WWII era or slightly after, when the US Army Air Forces (USAAF) transitioned into the independent U.S. Air Force in 1947.
