Since his debut in 1970, Kazumasa Oda has been active for about 20 years as a member of the band "Off Course," known for their legendary 10-day Nippon Budokan performances. Later, he went solo and created and sang numerous hit songs and heart-touching music.
This August, he updated his own record for the oldest arena tour. Even at 76 years old, over 300,000 fans attend his live performances annually, and he energetically performs for nearly three hours, running around the wide arena.
However, little has been said about Oda's life in detail until now.
In this book, the author spent about 20 years, interviewing Oda himself to cover his 76-year musical life from his childhood to the present. He talks about the music he encountered in his childhood, his walks home from school, and how he and Yasuyasu Suzuki, a classmate at Seiko Gakuin, discovered the joy of harmonizing Beatles songs, leading him to the path of music. The book also covers the early days of Off Course, including concerts with only 13 audience members, the departure of Yasuyasu Suzuki as Off Course grew into a superband, and the disbandment of the four-member Off Course... From the record industry and recording scenes of the time, the book also reveals the behind-the-scenes stories of the creation of many hit songs such as "Sayonara," "Nemurenu Yoru," "YES-YES-YES," and "Love Story wa Totsuzen ni."
