Nice antique original Rockingham ewer with handle
Features the classic Rockingham brown mottled glaze with hints of green
From 1840 to 1900, U.S. factories, such as those in East Liverpool, Ohio, made a brown-glazed pottery called Rockingham. This characteristic brown mottled glaze is the result of a combination of glazes applied in a two-step process: the vessel was first dipped in a clear or yellow glaze, dried, then an iron-based brown glaze would be splattered or dripped onto the vessel. The roots of this style of stoneware originate from Swinton Pottery in England.
