A miniature cedar chest often referred to as a “hope chest” by Lane Furniture Company given as graduation gifts to girls between 1940s - 1960s as part of an annual promotion project by furniture company Lane. The chests were sold to and branded with the name of a local furniture dealer carrying Lane furniture. LANE would send out an invitation to girls graduating high school to come to their local store to pick up their gift. The idea was to have the girl come back to the store after marriage to purchase furniture for their home.
This piece is not a salesman’s sample as easily thought.
Piece is approximately 8.75” wide, 5” deep and 3.5” tall made of red cedar wood.
Marked “Lane presented by Flanagan Furniture Stores Rochester, New York”.
There is a lock but the key is missing but great for storing collectibles or use as a jewelry box.
In excellent vintage condition Check the photos as there is very little sign of use. I believe this piece to be from the 1960s.
