DVD "The Man Beneath" (1919) Sessue Hayakawa, John Gilbert, Classic Silent Drama

This DVD is part of our Silent Gems Collection; all its films are in the public domain. Only 30% of the Silent Era films survive and virtually all of these have varying degrees of imperfections. We believe that it is better to show to the film lovers a hundred imperfect films now, than to make them wait for decades to see one perfectly restored film.
"The Man Beneath" is a crime drama starring Sessue Hayakawa, Helen Jerome Eddy, John Gilbert, Pauline Curley and others. An Asian man, who sees his romance with a European woman hindered by racial prejudices, uses his talents to save a white man in trouble.
By the standards of the average silent film "The Man Beneath" has acceptable quality and is perfectly watchable. The facial expressions can be seen clearly. The film has done better than 70% that are lost forever. The rating would have been good but for occasional, mostly light, nitrate damage.
