Questo evento, convocato da Luigi XVI, fu l'ultima assemblea di questo tipo e diede inizio alla Rivoluzione Francese. L'assemblea era composta dai rappresentanti del clero, della nobiltà e del Terzo Stato. Gli Stati Generali erano un organo consultivo con poteri limitati, convocato raramente dal sovrano, solitamente per affrontare gravi crisi finanziarie o politiche.
