Authentic pair of original 19th-century carte de visite photographs dating to the Civil War tax period, circa 1864–1866. Both cards feature original U.S. Internal Revenue 3¢ stamps, which were federally required on photographs during the Civil War. Stamped examples are significantly more collectible than unstamped CDVs.

One card is by Hazleton & Deans, photographers of Montrose, Pennsylvania, and bears a green 3¢ “Telegraph” revenue stamp. The second card is by J. T. Reen, photographer of Monticello, Indiana, and features a green 3¢ “Proprietary” revenue stamp with period handwritten cancellation. Two different studios, two states, and two stamp types make this an especially desirable comparison lot for collectors.

Both portraits depict women in period Civil War–era dress and hairstyles. Condition shows age-appropriate toning, light foxing, and wear consistent with photographs over 150 years old. Images remain clear and well-preserved for their age. Sold together as a historical lot.
