This is a pre-1950 ornate Chinese ivory puzzle ball, held aloft by a most detailed and unusually-carved ivory pedestal. The stand is 6”, and the puzzle ball is 3” in diameter. The entire sculpture is 9” tall. The cup holding the ball is 1 5/8”, and the diameter of the pedestal base is 2 3/4”. The ball is adorned with roses and foliage, which is a break from the usual dragon motif. A peacock is at the base of this ivory stand, and serves the purpose of bearing the weight of the entire statue. There appear to be 9 spheres located one within another, with no chips or cracks evident. Few ivory puzzle ball creations are more beautiful than this.
