This pair of unique oriental figurines of Ruben Kupur chalkware. Ruben Kupur was an artist/sculptor born in Russia in 1887. He emigrated to America in 1907. He was likely an itinerant artist who worked mostly around the Midwest. His painted works are typically found in pairs. His signature appears as can be seen in the pictures. Early 20th century Japanesque style man and woman chalk ware figurine. The man is holding a musical instrument and the woman is holding a fan. You can see where the paint has come on each figurine in the photos. It seems like the previous owner was trying to cover where the paint was coming off. Each statue is measured 8 1/2" tall x 2 1/2" wide.
