"Japan, Early 20th Century, Wooden And Polychrome Plaster Statue Of The Monk Nichiren Shonin."
Japan, early 20th century, very pretty statue in wood and polychrome plaster with gilding representing the monk Nichiren Shonin (1222-1282), founder of one of the great Zen schools of Mahayana Buddhism called Nichiren Shu during the Kamakura period. The Master is represented in full ceremonial attire, seated on a raised throne. He holds a scroll in his left hand and a scepter in his right hand. The eyes are glass. Presence of gilded brass decorations around the base of the throne. Good state of conservation except for a few chips. The colors are beautifully fresh
