This traditional Japanese hanging scroll (掛軸, kakejiku) features the powerful calligraphy 義勇奉公 (giyū hōkō), meaning “righteousness, courage, and service to the public.” Deeply rooted in classical Confucian and Bushido warrior ideals, the phrase reflects the Japanese values of moral duty, bravery, and public service which can be universally applied to any perspective or culture. This makes a great gift for that martial artist, law enforcement, or military service person in your life.

The original work is signed by 橘正澄 (Tachibana Masazumi), with his red seal below and comes in its original wooden Paulonia box. Likely from the late Meiji to early Shōwa Period (c. 1890 - 1940s), the scroll is mounted in classic brocade with soft green framing. A visually bold and philosophically rich piece that exemplifies the expressive elegance of Japanese calligraphy.
