Horsehair pottery vase measuring approximately 8” tall, 4.5” diameter at the top, and sits on a 3” base. Signed in 2017 by award winning master potter Kevin Matthews.
Legend has it that horsehair pottery was created accidentally when long hair from an native American Potter, who was removing a piece of pottery from a hot kiln, fell onto a hot pot leading behind and interesting carbonized design. Well typically horsehair is used, it is possible to use hair from dogs, cats, humans, and even feathers from birds. Horsehair pottery is not functional because of its porous quality. There is also no glaze applied to Kevin Mathews horsehair pottery. It is only for decorative use. Never pour liquids into horsehair pottery or use it for eating food off of. This vase can be used to hold dried flowers, for example. Beautiful and unique.
