These get unfairly lumped in with Blaxsploitation films but, they are both 1970's classic and truly works of art with excellent writing and groundbreaking cinematography.
Directed by Gordon Parks Jr. - the son of the director of Shaft & author of The Learning Tree and the most important civil rights photographer of the 20th century.
Super Fly (1972):
A highly successful and influential blaxploitation film about a drug dealer trying to escape the life.
Three the Hard Way (1974):
An action film starring Jim Brown, Fred Williamson, and Jim Kelly as martial arts experts fighting against a white supremacist group.
